Robinhood Launches Crypto Perpetual Futures with Up to 10x Leverage for US Retail Traders
Robinhood Opens Doors to Crypto Perpetual Futures for U.S. Retail Traders
September 29, 2026 – In a groundbreaking move for U.S. retail traders, Robinhood has launched crypto perpetual futures, allowing select users to trade no-expiry contracts on major cryptocurrencies with up to 10x leverage. This significant development marks a pivotal shift in the trading landscape, providing access to a market that many retail investors have been largely locked out of until now.
Starting today, users can engage with eight perpetual contracts on some of the most heavily traded digital assets. Bitcoin and Ethereum will be at the forefront, offering traders the ability to control $10,000 worth of BTC or ETH with just $1,000 in margin. Meanwhile, six additional tokens—Solana, XRP, Dogecoin, Cardano, Chainlink, and HYPE—will be available with a more conservative 3x leverage cap.
To sweeten the deal, Robinhood is introducing a temporary trading fee of just 0.01%, a rate that is aggressively low even by crypto exchange standards. This strategy is clearly aimed at attracting volume away from competitors during the initial rollout phase, making it an enticing option for traders looking to maximize their returns.
This launch is made possible by Robinhood’s recent acquisition of Bitstamp, which closed in June 2025 for approximately $200 million. This strategic move provided Robinhood with a robust global crypto exchange infrastructure, complete with existing regulatory relationships and institutional-grade trading systems—elements that are crucial for offering leveraged products in a compliant framework.
By routing these products through Robinhood Derivatives, a CFTC-registered futures commission merchant and NFA member, the company is able to navigate the complex regulatory landscape while providing users with the tools they need to trade effectively.
Robinhood had previously tested the waters internationally, launching crypto perpetual futures in the EU back in April 2026. The U.S. rollout extends this playbook to its home market, where the majority of its user base resides.
The timing of this launch aligns with other recent feature enhancements aimed at keeping active traders engaged. Robinhood has introduced AI trading agents and expanded into weekend equity trading, evolving from a simplified stock-buying app into a full-service trading platform.
However, it’s important to note that leveraged trading comes with significant risks. The potential for liquidation is real and rapid, especially at 10x leverage, where a mere 10% adverse move could wipe out an entire position. Robinhood’s own disclosures emphasize these elevated risks, a crucial consideration given the platform’s history of attracting newer, less experienced investors.
As Robinhood continues to innovate and expand its offerings, the introduction of crypto perpetual futures could redefine the trading experience for U.S. retail investors, opening up new avenues for profit—and risk—in the ever-evolving world of cryptocurrency.
