Joe Biden Expresses Gratitude for Release of Binance Executive in Phone Call with Nigerian President

The release of Tigran Gambaryan, the executive of the crypto-exchange Binance, has been a long-awaited moment for many. After being held in custody in Nigeria for eight months, Gambaryan’s release was finally secured on October 23, thanks to the efforts of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.

During his time in detention, Gambaryan faced numerous challenges, including being denied bail and falling ill without access to proper medical treatment. His case garnered attention as many believed the accusations were aimed at Binance rather than Gambaryan himself.

The phone call between President Joe Biden and President Tinubu marked a turning point in Gambaryan’s ordeal, with Biden expressing his gratitude for Tinubu’s leadership in securing the release of the American citizen on humanitarian grounds.

After facing charges of tax offenses and money laundering in Nigeria, Gambaryan’s case took a positive turn when the tax charges were dropped in September, followed by the dismissal of the money laundering charges this month. Gambaryan wasted no time in leaving the country to seek medical treatment in the United States.

As Gambaryan begins his journey towards recovery and reunites with his family, the support and advocacy from both the Nigerian and American governments have played a crucial role in ensuring his release. The end of Gambaryan’s Nigerian nightmare serves as a reminder of the importance of international cooperation and humanitarian efforts in times of crisis.
