Bitcoin Nears $69,000: Analyst Suggests Potential Market Bottom Amid Recent Sell-Off
Bitcoin Nears $69,000 as Analysts Suggest Market Bottoming Out
Bitcoin (BTC-USD) hovered around the $69,000 mark on Tuesday, sparking optimism among analysts who believe the cryptocurrency may be nearing a bottom after a tumultuous sell-off.
In a note released Monday night, Compass Point analyst Ed Engel highlighted that the crypto markets are entering the early phases of recovery following last weekās significant capitulation, which saw approximately $10 billion in realized losses for investorsāthe second-highest total recorded since June 2022. Engel noted, āThese massive capitulation events typically occur in the final stages of a sell-off,ā suggesting that the worst may be behind us.
However, Engel tempered enthusiasm with caution, warning that historical trends indicate crypto downturns rarely result in quick recoveries. He suggested that Bitcoin could retest the $60,000 level and might even dip as low as $55,000 before a more sustained recovery takes hold.
The cryptocurrency has experienced a dramatic decline of roughly 45% from its all-time high of over $126,000 in October, a period marked by forced liquidations and heavy selling from major holders, leading to what many are calling a “crypto winter.” Last week, Bitcoin fell below $61,000, marking its worst daily drop since November 2022. However, a sharp rebound on Friday has seen prices fluctuate around the $70,000 level since then.
Ether (ETH) also faced challenges, sliding close to $2,000 on Tuesday and extending its year-to-date losses to about 30%.
In a contrasting perspective, Bernstein analysts weighed in on the current market dynamics, asserting that the “bitcoin bear case is the weakest in its history.” Gautam Chhugani and his team emphasized that the current price fluctuations represent a “crisis of confidence” rather than a fundamental breakdown, predicting that Bitcoin could reach all-time highs again, with a target of $150,000 by the end of the year.
As Bitcoin continues to navigate this volatile landscape, investors and enthusiasts alike are keeping a close watch on market movements, hoping for signs of stabilization and recovery in the coming weeks.
