Bitcoin Faces Key Resistance at $85,000 Amid Large Holder Dynamics
Bitcoin Faces Stiff Resistance as Key Price Levels Loom
Bitcoin (BTC) is currently grappling with significant resistance in the $84,000 to $85,000 range, as recent analysis from crypto analytics platform Glassnode highlights the challenges ahead for the leading cryptocurrency. This resistance is particularly noteworthy, as it corresponds to a substantial portion of Bitcoin’s supply that last moved onchain during a pivotal trading period.
According to Glassnode’s latest newsletter, “The Week Onchain,” approximately 4.3% of the total Bitcoin supply—equating to 864,520 BTC—was last transacted when BTCUSD hovered between $84,000 and $85,000 on November 22, 2025. This concentration of coins is largely attributed to a single large holder, who has been transferring funds among various wallets. While such self-transfers typically do not influence market prices, they underscore the importance of this price range, which has acted as both support and resistance over the past 11 months.
“Bitcoin has shown a tendency to respect the $84,000-$85,000 range,” Glassnode noted. “It served as support in December, but when it failed to hold in January, Bitcoin experienced a sharp decline of about 20%.” The analysis points out that previous attempts to break through this resistance have faltered, with Bitcoin only managing five daily closes above this band, and never more than three in succession.
The implications of this resistance are further compounded by the behavior of long-term holders (LTH)—investors who have held their Bitcoin for at least 155 days. Glassnode reports that these holders collectively own around four million coins that last moved onchain between $85,000 and $118,000, primarily in 2025. Notably, more than half of these coins were acquired at prices above the current market level, suggesting that many LTHs may be inclined to sell if Bitcoin approaches the $85,000 mark again.
“The potential for sell-side pressure from long-term holders is significant,” Glassnode cautioned. “If Bitcoin’s price recovers toward $85K, many of these holders may look to offload their assets to recoup their investments.”
As the market watches closely, the $85,000 threshold remains a critical battleground for Bitcoin. Should the cryptocurrency manage to close above this level consistently, it could signal a shift in momentum, potentially transforming this resistance into a new support level. However, until that happens, traders and investors alike will remain vigilant, navigating the complexities of a market that is as volatile as it is promising.
With the crypto landscape continually evolving, all eyes are on Bitcoin as it attempts to break through this formidable resistance and chart a new course in the coming weeks.
