Crypto.com Partners with KG Inicis to Revolutionize Payments for Foreign Tourists in South Korea
In a groundbreaking move for the travel and finance sectors, Crypto.com has announced a partnership with KG Inicis, one of South Korea’s leading payment gateway providers, to introduce cryptocurrency payment options for foreign tourists visiting the country. This collaboration aims to enhance the shopping experience for international travelers by allowing them to pay for goods and services using digital assets.
According to a press release dated March 17, the integration of Crypto.com Pay will be rolled out across KG Inicis’ extensive merchant network, which includes approximately 190,000 affiliated merchants and commands nearly 40% of the market share in South Korea. This initiative will enable tourists to make purchases at both physical stores and online platforms, providing a seamless payment experience.
Merchants will benefit from the flexibility of settling transactions instantly in either fiat currency or cryptocurrency, catering to the diverse preferences of their customers. A spokesperson for KG Inicis emphasized the importance of bridging digital assets with the real economy, stating, “A payment infrastructure that connects these two worlds will become a core competitiveness of the future finance and commerce industries.”
The partnership comes at a time when the use of cryptocurrency in tourism is on the rise across Asia. Countries like Thailand and Bhutan have already begun integrating digital assets into their tourism sectors, with Thailand launching an 18-month TouristDigiPay program and Bhutan partnering with Binance Pay to facilitate crypto payments for travelers.
Beyond payment solutions, Crypto.com and KG Inicis are also exploring additional avenues for collaboration, including joint marketing efforts and new product development, although these initiatives will be subject to regulatory approval.
This partnership aligns with Crypto.com’s broader expansion strategy, which recently saw the company secure conditional approval for a U.S. national trust bank charter and achieve ISO certification for AI systems management. Additionally, the crypto exchange has launched a new prediction market platform, OG, further solidifying its position in the evolving financial landscape.
As the world continues to embrace digital currencies, this partnership between Crypto.com and KG Inicis marks a significant step forward in integrating cryptocurrency into everyday transactions, particularly for the booming tourism sector in South Korea. With the potential to enhance the travel experience for millions of visitors, this initiative could set a precedent for other countries looking to adopt similar payment solutions.
