In a significant move for the cryptocurrency community, Toncoin is set to rebrand its native token from TON to GRAM on June 15, 2026, at 12:00 UTC. This decision, which received overwhelming support from the community with 81.22% voting in favor, was made through an on-chain governance vote, marking a pivotal moment for The Open Network (TON).

What You Need to Know

The rebranding will not require any token swaps or migrations, meaning that holders can breathe easy. Existing balances, wallet addresses, staking positions, and all DeFi assets will remain intact and fully operational. After the switch, one TON will simply be represented as one GRAM, with changes primarily affecting how the asset is displayed on various platforms.

The voting took place on the TON Vote platform from June 1 to June 8, 2026, with voting power based on TON balances recorded in a snapshot taken on May 31. The proposal was put forth by Telegram, which has played a crucial role in the development of the TON ecosystem.

A Return to Roots

The rebranding to GRAM is seen as a return to the original vision outlined in the 2018 TON whitepaper by Telegram. Founder Pavel Durov emphasized that this change symbolizes a reconnection with the project’s roots, especially after the SEC’s intervention that previously halted the original token sale plans.

During a three-month transition period, platforms are encouraged to display the asset as “Gram” to minimize user confusion. Following this period, the asset will exclusively be referred to as GRAM.

As of now, Toncoin is trading at $1.71, reflecting a daily drop of 4.92% and a weekly loss of 13%. The price had recently peaked at around $2.10, but bearish market trends following the announcement have impacted its value.
