Gemini Cryptocurrency Exchange Warns of Data Breach Incident Caused by Cyberattack at ACH Service Provider
Gemini, a popular cryptocurrency exchange, is once again in the spotlight after revealing a recent data breach incident. The breach, caused by a cyberattack at its ACH service provider, has put some of its customers’ banking information at risk.
The breach, which occurred between June 3 and June 7, 2024, exposed customers’ full names, bank account numbers, and routing numbers. While sensitive information like social security numbers and passwords were not compromised, Gemini is urging affected individuals to remain vigilant for signs of fraud.
Gemini has taken steps to contain the breach and is conducting an investigation with the help of external experts. Customers are advised to enable multi-factor authentication on their bank accounts and contact their banks for additional protection measures.
This is not the first time Gemini has faced a data breach. In 2022, the exchange experienced a massive breach that exposed the contact details of 5.7 million users. The stolen database was even offered for sale on the dark web.
As the investigation into the recent breach continues, Gemini has not disclosed the number of impacted individuals. Customers are encouraged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to protect their financial information.
