Robinhood Expands Investment Horizons with Cryptocurrency Trading for UK Investors

In a significant move to enhance its all-in-one investment platform, Robinhood has officially launched cryptocurrency trading for UK investors, allowing access to over 50 digital assets alongside traditional stocks and shares ISAs, equities, options, and futures. This rollout, which begins this week, is set to transform the way UK investors engage with the burgeoning world of cryptocurrencies.

The trading service will be facilitated through Bitstamp UK Ltd, a registered cryptoasset service provider with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). This partnership ensures that customers can trade popular cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and Hyperliquid directly through the Robinhood app.

One of the standout features of Robinhood’s crypto offering is its commitment to zero trading, account maintenance, or custody fees. However, UK customers should be aware of a 0.10% foreign exchange fee, with an additional 0.30% fee for conversions made over the weekend. This pricing structure positions Robinhood as a more cost-effective and transparent alternative to existing UK crypto platforms, which often incorporate wider spreads and additional fees into their transactions.

Despite the advantages, it’s important to note that cryptocurrency held through Bitstamp UK is not protected by the UK’s Financial Services Compensation Scheme or the Financial Ombudsman Service, a factor that potential investors should consider.

In addition to crypto trading, Robinhood is introducing a new feature called Cortex Digests for Crypto. Powered by generative AI, this tool aims to demystify the factors influencing price movements in individual digital assets. By analyzing breaking news, market data, technical indicators, and proprietary insights, Cortex Digests presents information in an easily digestible format, helping investors make informed decisions.

The launch of cryptocurrency trading also marks a significant expansion of Robinhood’s digital asset ecosystem in the UK. Developers will have the opportunity to build on Robinhood Chain, a Layer 2 blockchain designed for financial services and tokenized real-world assets. Since its global launch on July 1, Robinhood Chain has generated over $18 billion in decentralized exchange trading volume and surpassed $840 million in total value locked.

While Robinhood Chain is not provided by Robinhood U.K. Ltd and is not regulated by the FCA, it represents the company’s ambition to create a comprehensive investment platform that caters to a diverse range of financial needs.

To further support its users, Robinhood is expanding its educational resources through Robinhood Learn and its Help Center, alongside offering 24/7 customer support via in-app chat.

Jordan Sinclair, President of Robinhood U.K. Ltd and GM of Bitstamp UK Ltd, emphasized the importance of this launch, stating, “A new wave of UK investors sees digital assets as an important part of a diversified portfolio. With today’s launch, we’re taking another major step toward becoming the all-in-one investment platform for the UK.”

As Robinhood continues to broaden its offerings, this launch not only reflects the growing interest in digital assets among UK investors but also positions the platform as a key player in the evolving landscape of cryptocurrency trading.
